The whole gag with Atticus going through doors! That was soooo perfect and funny. The monster looked so cool! Loved how creepy the Stewards fingers looked when it was typing! This episode added so much new mystery with the orbs that the Steward was tinkering with! And why did the Steward run away when it saw One-One? +100 for Atticus joining the team! The Crystal Car The Crystal Car looked so cool! Loved the crystal animals! Also reminded us of Steven Universe lol Atticus and One-One singing was amazing. The whole moment when Tulip realizes which song to sing was soooo cute and good and wholesome and funny. The Crystal Giants tiny key necklace was cute. The Cats Car The train cars can switch positions à Seeing Tulips memories really built her character and her relationship with her parents! It was also really cute to see her singing the road trip song! Also the *way* that we got to see Tulips memories when she stepped into the TV was really creative! The episode started and ended with the jelly bean flicking!!! And while Tulip was looking through her Swiss Army knife, she flipped past the mirror inside!!! Sad-One saying This is my cocoon now. Why are Sad-Ones one-liners perfection???? The Chrome Car looks so COOOLLLL! Atticus barking at his reflection!!! Whoever wrote that moment into the script or storyboard, thank you. AAA the whole concept of your reflection being their own person!!! And the scene where Tulip and her reflection switch places! This car is SO cool, both in concept and look! We will say that it was a little hard to read what was happening in the moment when Tulips reflection gets pulled up. It just happened a little too quickly. Tercero: es muy importante tener en cuenta que mientras dura este proceso, la estancia del cà ³nyuge extranjero probablemente se encuentre por varios meses no cubierta desde el punto de vista migratorio por una visa o por la ESTA. Es por ello que no se debe salir de Estados Unidos. Lo recomendable es permanecer dentro del paà s o bien hasta que reciba la tarjeta de residente o bien un permiso que se conoce como advance parole. Si sale antes o sin esa autorizacià ³n, se arriesga a que cuando quiera regresar se le prohà ba la entrada en la frontera de EEUU. Incluso es recomendable consultar con un abogado si conviene salir aà ºn teniendo el advance parole. Cuarto: tener muy claro que en este artà culo siempre se habla de matrimonio con un ciudadano americano y nunca del caso de una pareja conformada por extranjero turista y residente permanente. Y es que estos casos son muy diferentes ya que si el turista se queda sin la proteccià ³n legal de la visa o de la ESTA porque permanece en el paà s mà ¡s tiempo del permitido no va a poder ajustar su estatus y, por lo tanto, no va a poder obtener la residencia dentro de los Estados Unidos. Esta es una gran diferencia desde el punto de vista migratorio. Quinto: tener en cuenta que siempre se habla de turista que ingresà ³ con visa o con ESTA. Nada de lo que dice este artà culo aplica a los migrantes que llegaron a los Estados Unidos sin pasar por un control migratorio, es decir, aquellos que ingresaron ilegalmente por la frontera. Ademà ¡s, pueden abrir el equipaje y descubrir cosas sospechosas como el traje de novia, regalos, muchà simas maletas para un viaje en teorà a de sà ³lo un par de semanas, etc. En estos casos, Inmigracià ³n està ¡ en su derecho de prohibir la entrada del extranjero, por mucha visa que tenga. Y es que es muy importante entender que para obtener la aprobacià ³n de una visa no inmigrante, como es la de turista, o su renovacià ³n o la garantà a de ser admitido al llegar a un control migratorio de los Estados Unidos es necesario ser, en todo momento, elegible para la visa y admisible para ingresar a USA. Estas sonà 20 causas que convierten a una persona en inelegibleà y estas sonà 22 que la convierten en inadmisible. à ¿Quà © pasa si migracià ³nà no aprueba el ajuste de estatus por matrimonio? Es muy raro que el Servicio de Inmigracià ³n y Ciudadanà a (USCIS, por sus siglas en inglà ©s) niegue la aprobacià ³n del I-130, es decir, la parte inicial de la tramitacià ³n donde realmente lo à ºnico que se confirma es que el que pide es un ciudadano y està ¡ casado legalmente con la persona pedida. Nada mà ¡s. El problema surge en ajuste de estatus. Las razones pueden ser muy variadas. Por ejemplo, que se considere que se ingresà ³ a Estados Unidos con la intencià ³n de casarse. Eso puede ser considerado un fraude de ley, ya que implica una mentira cuando se solicità ³ la visa de turista o cuando se cumplimentà ³ la ESTA. In an article about gender differences, Time Magazine found that for every dollar a man makes at a certain job, a woman makes only $0.79 at the same job. The question of gender should have nothing to do with the pay rate in cases that deal with the same employment opportunity. Kymlicka argues, ââ¬Å"Since the problem is domination, the solution is not only the absence of discrimination but the presence of powerâ⬠. He says that if women could have the power to redefine the existing job roles (or if they would have had the power to define the job roles when they were created), ââ¬Å"we would not have created a system of social roles that defines ââ¬Ëmaleââ¬â¢ jobs as superior to ââ¬Ëfemaleââ¬â¢ jobsâ⬠. I believe that the real issue is not how women can redefine pre-existing jobs so that gender inequality is abolished; but rather, how can society change its prejudices towards the role of women through the restructuring of laws and policy implementation? Instead of changing job characteristics so that they become gender-neutral, society should look at men and women as equals so that women have an equal chance at fitting the demanding roles that have already been established. One can start by looking at a doctor as an example of a male-defined profession that is arguably becoming female-dominated. To become a doctor, much education is needed, and when this job was created, only men had the ability to get this higher education. The first woman to graduate from medical school (Elizabeth Blackwell) did so in 1849: much later than the men who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1765. Now that the admissions gender ratio of medical schools are about even, this has ceased to be a ââ¬Å"maleâ⬠job; rather, it is gender neutral. On the other hand, the career of an attorney still has a majorà discrepancy between the sexes. Even though 49% of law school graduates are female, they only make up 27% of licensed lawyers in the country. Obviously, the access to education is equal, and so does not contribute to the male dominance of this field. On the contrary, this job is male-suited because of the limitations that it poses for women who wish to have children. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the position of attorney is extremely time-demanding: lawyers are forced to work irregular hours, weekends, with 33% working over 50 hours per week. How can this job be redefined so as to allow more women to be competitive in the job market? Kymlicka would suggest that women be empowered to redefine the position to suit them betterââ¬âthis would mean redefining the position by not working as many hours. If it can be done, it will be difficult. The alternative to this solution is to go to the source of the problem: the gender roles that society already holds. Women are usually the primary source of childcare; this means that their employment opportunities are severely limited to those jobs that have flexible hours in which they could balance domestic and public/private sector workââ¬âjobs unlike that of a lawyer. If society would be more accepting of males being the primary caregiver for children, the number of males who either stay at home or take on less-demanding occupations would displace the high number of women who already fill this role. The women who would enter the job market would then be on equal terms with their male counterparts seeking the same demanding jobs. If society would view the two genders as equal for child rearing (e.g. women are not the majority of primary caretakers), there are still complications that arise from the roles, which are deterrents for women. For instance, even if the woman is not the primary caretaker of the child after pregnancy, this does not make up for the fact that there is still a period where she is unable to work due to pregnancy. In other words, the role of mother and father can never be fully equal because the mother has the extra responsibility of carrying the baby to term. However, if the social roles for each gender were to be equal, viewing paternity leave as mandatory could solve this problem. According to the Newbornsââ¬â¢ and Mothersââ¬â¢ Health Protection Act of 1996, health plans must pay for at least 48-hour (vaginal) or 96-hour (caesarean) hospital stay afte r childbirth. This means that at the minimum, a woman should take two days off for maternity leave to recover, if nothing else. Although a man does notà need to physically recuperate from childbirth or pregnancy, he is still a parent of the child and should be viewed with equal consideration when dealing with childcare issues. By making paternity leave mandatory, employers could no longer discriminate between the sexes by accounting for the time lost due to pregnancy. This would not be a difficult policy to implement, considering 71% of fathers took advantage of paternity leave in 2007. To expand on the idea that the roles of the sexes cannot be equal in every aspect: mothers who choose to breastfeed are at a disadvantage, for they will likely take more days for maternity leave. Under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), a woman can take up to 12 weeks off of work. This option serves as a reason why an employer may not hire a woman, even if the social roles of men and women were equal. However, this can be easily fixed by creating an incentive for women to choose to formula-feed or to pump their breast milkââ¬âthis would make it so that they could return to work as soon as a man would. The FMLA states that although maternity and paternity leaves are unpaid, health benefits still apply. These health benefits could extend to partially cover the cost of formula or a pump. Baby formula is very costly because of the quantity that is needed, and breast pumps and bags can range from $20 to over $200 (depending if it is manual or electric). By making alternative options to breastfeeding more accessible, women need not take more time off than men, and so gender inequality is invalid. Furthermore, even if society views gender roles equally, this does not account for the fact that the majority of men are physically superior to the majority of women when it comes to manual labor. Looking at any construction or shipping sites, one will find that if not entirely composed of men, almost all employees are male. Obviously, if the job is physically demanding and the male sex is the most equipped at handling physically demanding jobs, females will very rarely be more qualified for the job than a male applicant. This can be remedied by the use of technology. In todayââ¬â¢s society, much manual labor can be handled my machines that are designed to lift even more than a human being can. These machines need not be operated by those physically superior. If we take manual labor out of the equation by adding technology, both sexes would have an equal opportunity at the job; this is considering the fact that neither sex is inferior in controlling technology. It is here where society can put aside sexual differences andà instead become ââ¬Å"sex-blindâ⬠. A sex-blind society is one that does not take into account gender for the awarding of benefits through employment, opportunities, etc. There are many instances in which it would be helpful to have a sex-blind society, but there are some instances where different treatment of the sexes is justified. Kymlicka brings up the example of sex-segregated washrooms. These would not be considered discriminatory because the physical difference between the sexes calls for different treatment. Still, these instances are so rare and are so well justified that they should not interfere with the important notion of the sex-blind society. By eliminating the need for discrimination in manual labor due to physical differences through the implementation of technology, society can successfully become sex-blind and thus end gender discrimination. So to answer the question of how to change societyââ¬â¢s prejudices towards the role of women, it is obvious that if minor changes are made to these demanding jobs, they can be viewed as gender-neutral. This in turn will allow more women to compete against men for a variety of jobs. Instead of redefining job roles, society must redefine gender roles through the lens of childrearing; this is so that jobs that are now limited to those individuals without the responsibility of childcare may become more gender-diverse in competition. Todayââ¬â¢s society has all the resources needed to implement these changesââ¬âitââ¬â¢s just a matter of time until they are enacted in policies and eventually shift gender relations and stereotypes in favor of gender equality. When the student is late, the teacher marks off one of the spots. On the other hand, if the student gets through a semester without any tardies, then you would create a reward. For example, you might give this student a homework pass. In Elizabethan times, when ââ¬ËRomeo and Julietââ¬â¢ was written, the stage in which it would have been performed would have been very simple. Therefore, Shakespeare had to rely on the words spoken by the characters to create the imagery needed. By using light to denote love he could create the images he wanted and the audience could picture the mood as opposed to seeing it. An example of this is when Romeo describes Juliet, his love, as a light breaking through a dark window (Act 2 Scene 2) or a bright angel or the sun. Juliet then goes on to describe the suddenness of their love like lightning: ââ¬ËIt is too rash, too sudden, too like the lightning. ââ¬Ë (Act 2 Scene 2 line 118-119) This technique is so effective that Shakespeare uses it throughout ââ¬ËRomeo and Julietââ¬â¢. Shakespeare was born and grew up during the Elizabethan times. Religion, money and wealth played a strong part in life in this era. In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays he reflects heavily on Elizabethan values in showing love and marriage to be the main focus of womenââ¬â¢s life. Girls as young as 12 were encouraged to marry for Wealth and Status as opposed to love. According to an Elizabethan text it says: ââ¬ËIt is generally considered foolish to marry for love, although love may occur in marriage. ââ¬Ë Elizabethan Life- Throughout the Ages The idea of arranged marriages was very popular during this time and this topic is featured in Romeo and Juliet. Julietââ¬â¢s parents, Lord and Lady Capulet, are approached by, Paris, a suitable husband for their daughter. Through looking at his background and status in wealth, Lord Capulet decides that the two should marry. However, it could be said that Shakespeare wasnââ¬â¢t in favour of these marriages because he made two main characters express concern about the age of their daughter being so young. This is shown when Lord Capulet says to Paris: ââ¬ËMy child is yet a stranger in the world, She hath not seen the change of fourteen years, Let two more summers wither in their pride, Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride. ââ¬Ë (Act 1 Scene 2) One of the most abnormal actions which would not normally fit in with Elizabethan life is when Romeo and Juliet marry because of pure love. When this play was written there was a small rising Elizabethan interest in marrying for love as apposed to status of wealth or family. By including this in the play he introduced his audience to what he thought should be accepted possibly in future life. In ââ¬ËRomeo and Julietââ¬â¢ Shakespeare uses different types of language technique to create an emotion. A prime example of this is when the two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, meet for the very first time. They share a 14 line sonnet. In this sonnet there is religious imagery: Which mannerly devotion shows in this, For saints have hands that pilgrimsââ¬â¢ hands do touch, And palm to palm is holy palmersââ¬â¢ kiss. (Act 1 Scene 5 lines 97-99) Here Romeo and Juliet use religious icons to express their love for each other and through mirroring the love between a pilgrim and a saint they are in reality talking about themselves. One of the reasons why Shakespeare has used this sonnet in the first meeting, between Romeo and Juliet is to emphasise their mutual feeling of ââ¬Ëlove at first sightââ¬â¢. It brings both rhythm and elegance to the text. By including sonnets in his text, Shakespeare is able to enhance and beatify the emotion. Before the famous two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, meet each other for the first time we discover, in the opening scene, that Romeo is infatuated with a lady called Rosaline. In Act 1 Scene 1 Romeo declares ââ¬ËShe is too fair, to wise, wisely too fair, To merit bliss by making me despair. ââ¬Ë Romeo is indeed in despair as Rosaline, the women he apparently loves, has sworn that he will remain a virgin for the rest of her life. Benvolio reminds Romeo by saying ââ¬ËThen she hath sworn that she will still live chaste. ââ¬Ë Romeo partly in anger, starts using elaborate language to further describe his infatuation. He says: ââ¬ËLove is a smoke made with the fume of sighs, Being purged, a fire sparkling in loverââ¬â¢s eyes. ââ¬Ë Romeoââ¬â¢s love for Rosaline echoes Petrachââ¬â¢s, a popular English poet, work. Petrarch used very heavy descriptive language in his poetry. Romeo was almost obsessed with Rosaline but she rejected his advances. This type of infatuation is called Petrarchan love. Romeoââ¬â¢s love for Rosaline is classed as unrequitedââ¬â¢ love or almost courtly love. Shakespeare wrote Romeoââ¬â¢s melodramatic speech about Rosaline to seem almost unconvincing. It was as if Shakespeare didnââ¬â¢t want the audience to believe that Romeoââ¬â¢s feelings were genuine. He uses oxymoronââ¬â¢s to persuade us that in fact Romeoââ¬â¢s love for Rosaline is false. An example of this is when Romeo says: ââ¬ËO brawling love, loving Hate, O heavy lightness, serious vanity. ââ¬Ë By including such techniques as this, it almost overdresses the text and enhances the fake- ness. Although the audience recognise that this love Romeo has is fake Shakespeare reinforces the audienceââ¬â¢s suspicions by making one of his characters realise this too. Throughout the play Shakespeare uses the language to create and encourage dramatic tension. A good example of this is when the Friar Lawrence repeats the word ââ¬Ëcomeââ¬â¢, in Act 5 Scene 3, four times within a short speech. By using repetition it builds up not only the pace but tension too. It is the Friar Laurence who comments on Romeoââ¬â¢s lack of genuine love. He believes that Romeoââ¬â¢s love for Rosaline is indeed false and is classed a doting rather than true love. He describes how this is common in young men by saying ââ¬ËYoung menââ¬â¢s love then lies, Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. ââ¬Ë Act 2 Scene 2. Friar Laurence then goes on to quote Romeoââ¬â¢s love again, he says: ââ¬ËThy love did read by rote, that could not spell. ââ¬Ë Act 2 Scene 3. He believes that Romeoââ¬â¢s love is more like a recitation memorised from a book, and that he has no true understanding of it. When Romeo approaches Friar Laurence, after attending the Capulet party, his attitude has changed. He has indeed fallen in love with a Capulet; the Montagueââ¬â¢s opposition. The language Romeo uses is livelier which is apposed to the dull yet heavily decorated speech he earlier used. When Romeo claimed to be in love with Rosaline, the friar became fed up with Romeoââ¬â¢s speech being too flowery. He says ââ¬ËBe plain good son, and homely in thy driftââ¬â¢. (Act 2 Scene 3 Lines 55). In Act 2 Scene 3 Friar Laurence is suspicious of Romeoââ¬â¢s new found love and tells him not to be too hasty. Romeo seems to be convinced about his new love. Friar Laurence says that he will support him: ââ¬ËIn one respect Iââ¬â¢ll thy assistant beââ¬â¢. Although through Friar Laurenceââ¬â¢s speech and reactions towards Romeo he is wary, the Friar sees this as an opportunity to bring the two contrasting families together: ââ¬ËFor this alliance may so happy prove, to turn your householdââ¬â¢s rumour to pure love. At the beginning of the play it features Sampson and Gregory, two Montague Servants. They start to boast to each about their sexual experiences. They talk about women losing their virginity and menââ¬â¢s erections and their lust for such things. This could be classed as Crude or Sexual love. Another place in the play where it happens is in Act 2 Scene 5 line 75. This is when the nurse behaves in a crude manner. She says jokingly, while sending Juliet of to her marriage with Romeo, ââ¬ËBut you shall bear the burden soon at night. ââ¬Ë One of the most obvious types of love portrayed in Romeo and Juliet is true love. This is displayed between the two ââ¬ËStar-crossedââ¬â¢ lovers Romeo and Juliet. Throughout the play they show ââ¬Ëtrue loveââ¬â¢ for each other. One prime example of this is in the balcony scene in Act 2 Scene 2. Both through indirect and direct speech to one another they express their feelings for one another. Juliet says to Romeo: ââ¬ËEre one can say ââ¬ËIt lightensââ¬â¢. Sweet, good night, this bud of love, by summers ripening breath. My love is deep; the more I give to thee, the more I have. ââ¬Ë In Romeo and Juliet one type of love which is portrayed between Juliet her parents is paternal Love. Both her father and mother express concern over Juliet and her welfare. Her father mainly shows this when The County Paris asks to marry Juliet within the next couple of days. He replies:ââ¬â¢ Monday ha, ha! Wednesday is too soon, Aââ¬â¢ Thursday let it beââ¬â¢. The language used by Lord Capulet reinforces his love for Juliet by appearing strong yet making a joke out of the suddenness of the marriage. By saying ââ¬Ëha, ha! ââ¬Ë in response to Paris wanting the marriage to be on Monday it appears as if he has everything sorted out. Yet, in the real sense he doesnââ¬â¢t want to let his daughter go so soon. Throughout his next speech he appears to of thought he is doing the right thing by marrying Juliet to Paris. He makes sure that Paris is a worthy Gentleman therefore portraying affection and love for his daughter. One character who is not related to Juliet yet shows parental-like love towards her is her nurse. We know that previous to when the play is set that the nurse has lost her child. Although that Julietââ¬â¢s Nurse does not believe in ââ¬Ëtrue loveââ¬â¢ she expresses love for Juliet. She lets Juliet and her lover, an enemy of the family, meet. In Act 1 Scene 3 line 60-63 she shows affection towards Juliet after conveying messages to from one lover to another: ââ¬ËPeace, I have done. God mark thee to his grace, Thou wast the prettiest babe that eââ¬â¢er I nursed. And I might live to see thee married once, I have my wish. ââ¬Ë The language used by the nurse is very affectionate and personal. This helps to reinforce the Nurseââ¬â¢s Parental love for Juliet. The play ends with a triumph of true love over a dutiful love, the marriage between Juliet and Paris, and the hate between the two families. Romeo and Juliet perform the ultimate act of true love by dying for each other in order to be together. The two feuding families of Verona finally shake hands and are united through this tragedy. In shaking hands they are formalising Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s love. Capulet says: O brother Montague, give me thy hand.
